Aberystwyth League Withdrawal

Dear Members,

I have this morning received an email from the Club Manager of Aberystwyth Golf Club stating that they are pulling out of the forthcoming Rabbits season as they cannot guarentee being able to field teams for all matches. Whilst accepting their problems, it is sad to see a member club taking this decision. I hope they are able to rejoin in the near future.

I believe that several clubs have also received correspondence from Aberystwyth. I sure you will make the appropriate arrangements at your clubs.

Can I please ask that all clubs forward their fixture list to me as soon as possible at paul.rees@tatasteeleurope.com.

Yours in Sport Paul Rees

League Rules Update

Gentlemen. I have recently had a hand over meeting with Rhys Jones and I wish him good luck in his future endeavours and hope it is not too long before he plays this great game again. Following on from that meeting, I am able to post the Minutes of our last AGM and also an updated version of the League Rules following our discussions during the AGM. Going forward, I hope to be able to emulate the efforts of past Secretaries in helping you to enjoy this wonderful league.

Can I please ask that all Captains or their representatives fully read and digest the Rules before we get going and can you also forward your fixtures as soon as is practicable.

Many Thanks

Paul

2021 AGM

Dear All,

The AGM will take place at Carmarthen Golf Club , on Tuesday November 23rd at 7pm.

Unfortunately Priskilly have opted not to take part in the league next year , and I am still awaiting a definite confirmation from Aberystwyth.

Agenda items already for discussion are as follows

1. League format and structure

2. Implementation of the World handicap system into the league.

3. Position of League Secretary- moving forward

Paul (Ashburnham) seconded by Nigel (Glyn Abbey have proposed a number of amendments to the league rules that cover some of the above areas, and I will post their proposal on Wednesday 17th , along with any other proposals.

Your input and suggestions are welcome, and if you have any proposals for these or any other matters please can you get them to me by the end of the day on 16th November. Please remember that proposal will need to be seconded by another club.

If you have any questions or want a chat feel free to reply or give me a ring on 07708760765.

If you can send through details to me of your Captains/ person who arranges fixtures for next year, so I can share with all the other clubs , that would be great.

Regards

Rhys

News that will effect the below post

Unfortunately I have received a message from Priskilly Golf club , that they will be withdrawing from all league activity this year. Although disappointing, we respect the decision and wish them a successful domestic summer , and hope to see them back in 2022.

In light of this , there maybe some need to look at the groups below.

I will keep you updated.

Happy New Year & an Update on the plan for 2021

Firstly, I hope you are all well, and despite this recent surge in Covid-19 over the winter months and the closure once again of our Golf clubs , chomping at the bit to get back playing golf this summer.

Back in November the committee and all the Rabbit Captains were invited to take part in a very simplified AGM .

The only two Items on the agenda were , should the 2021 Rabbits season go ahead, and secondly if so what format should be used, ( keeping in mind there maybe continued restrictions impacting on play – that may need to be factored in at a later date).

There were several options suggested , but the winner was that Tenby suggestion which is as follows-

A Champions League style Group and Knockout structure for this year only. This is to reduce travel and sharing of transport, and decreasing the risk of cancellation if certain counties re enter lockdown etc.

This will be reviewed at next years AGM. The Leagues are as follows –

Group A – Ashburnham, Glyn Abbey, Glynhir, Garnant

Group B- Carmarthen, Tenby, Haverfordwest

Group C – Priskilly, Milford Haven, South Pembs

Group D – Cwmrhydneuadd, Aberystwyth, Penrhos

The winners of each group will enter the Cup Semi Finals. The second place teams in each group will enter the knockout Shield, and The 3rd place teams will enter the knock out Bowl.
Fixtures will be played home and away. Using the same scoring system as previous years. The aim is that All Group fixtures must have taken place by the end of July.

The aim is to have the Semi finals in August and Finals in late August/ early September.

The number of pairs this year will be fixed to 6 . This ensures a competitive match at all times.

The hope is that the knockouts will be held at neutral venues (restrictions allowing).

The draw for the knockouts will be made on the evening of the last Sunday of July for each semi final and the neutral venues decided on the clubs participating. ( Can I request clubs interested in being neutral venues contact me ).

A finals Weekend / Day will be held to host the finalists from the  , proposed to be at Glyn Abbey, but this can be altered to suit restrictions and teams that make the finals.

Food provision post match is not a  prerequisite to any match taking place this year. If it is able to be provided in a safe and responsible way then it should be offered.

Due to the position that we find ourselves in , and wanting to put on the best experience possible, The Rabbits Open will be postponed again this year.

Cancellation of 2020 Three Counties Summer League.

In light of the current situation , and with a view to abiding by the future guidelines on social distancing, travel and general player welfare, we as a committee have taken the hard decision to cancel the league for this year. this decision was not reached easily , but in the light of other team competitions being cancelled, I think it is the correct one.

Even if courses opened tomorrow, it would be nigh on impossible to fit all the fixtures in to the remaining season, and it is important that we support our own courses when they do open , ensuring their continued existence through this difficult period.

If things improve drastically by July / August it may be possible for us to arrange friendly matches between local courses. Please feel free to contact me for details at that stage.

Glyn Abbey have also taken the difficult decision to defer this years Rabbits Open until 2021, when hopefully they can put on an event worthy of the return of Rabbits golf.

The most important thing to remember is that we all stay safe and well through this , and we can all return next year for some fun on the golf course with friends from all over the three counties.

regards to all

2020 League Suspended until May.

Due to the COVID 19 outbreak, it has been decided that all fixtures in March and April are Postponed.

We as a committee will review again towards the end of April, on the way forward . If we are over the worst we have several options, including rearranging fixtures into the Month of October, or awarding halves to all matches planned during these two months; However, if things are not improving, then we may decide to void the league for the year ( but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that).

Most importantly I hope you all stay safe and well over the next few months.
